Today’s LiveWire Spotlight is the second of two articles dealing with the modified updates to the CIP standards enabling the use of virtualization services without affecting legacy perimeter-based architectures.  Part I examined the changes that will be made to the CIP definitions forming the basis of a common virtualization protective strategy.  Today’s article looks at the modifications that have been proposed in the Draft 2 CIP virtualization standards addressing industry stakeholder feedback to Draft 1.

The second drafts of the CIP virtualization standards and their supporting materials have been posted on the NERC web site for a 45-day review period.  Comments and ballots must be returned to the Standards Drafting Team by August 20, 2021.
