Today’s LiveWire Spotlight provides the “latest” regarding the Extreme Cold Weather Standards — which saw an impressive 50-point surge in approval from Draft 1 to 70%.  This signifies the industry’s acceptance of EOP-011-3 and EOP-012-1 which look to prevent a repeat of the 2021 extreme cold weather storm (Uri) in Texas.  The article also touches the Technical Reference document newly posted on the project web page to defuse stakeholder feedback that the process to calculate the Extreme Cold Weather Temperature is overly cumbersome.

EOP-012-1 is on track for FERC approval by mid-2023.  After that date, Clients will have 18 months to update their cold weather plans and Operator training – and to be prepared to take corrective actions should they experience a Generator Cold Weather Reliability Event.
