Today’s LiveWire Spotlight examines the recent joint EPRI-NAGF-NATF-NERC webinar on IEEE 2800-2022; which looks to standardize the connection of inverter-based resources (IBRs) to transmission systems.  The presenters stepped through the performance and functional capability criteria for in-scope equipment – including those for minimum reactive power, frequency/voltage disturbance ride-through, rate-of-change-of-frequency, power quality, modeling data, and performance monitoring.

IEEE expects most ISOs will follow ERCOT’s adoption plan, i.e.; cite the IBR interconnection standard in their rules right away, and enact pieces over time until it becomes fully mandatory.  ERCOT estimates it will take 2 years to address 13 gaps they have identified.
