Today’s LiveWire Spotlight is the second of 3 articles dealing with the proposed updates to the CIP standards enabling the use of virtualization services without affecting legacy perimeter-based architectures. Part I examined the structural changes that will be made to every CIP standard forming the basis of a common virtualization protective strategy. Today’s article looks at three standards fundamental to the approach (CIP-005, 007, and 010). Part III will address the implications to the remaining CIP standards.
The initial draft of the CIP virtualization standards and their supporting materials have been posted on the NERC web site for a 60-day review period. Comments and ballots must be returned to the Standards Drafting Team by March 22, 2021.
