Today’s LiveWire Spotlight evaluates an executive order issued on March 26 by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, directing a coordinated approach to improve the Nation’s resilience to electromagnetic pulses (EMPs). The order looks for the Secretary of Homeland Security in conjunction with the 16 Sector-Specific Agencies responsible for the critical infrastructures to identify the highest priority assets and develop plans to protect them from EMP.

By June 24, the Department of Homeland Security must develop the initial list of critical infrastructures. The final list must be submitted to the President one year later – work on the cross-sector plan will begin soon afterwards.
