Today’s LiveWire Spotlight evaluates NERC’s latest annual Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Program (CMEP) operating plan – the fifteenth since they began a programmatic approach to assure that Entities meet all their reliability obligations to U.S./Canadian law.  The CMEP identifies seven Risk Elements in 2023, five of which have changed since 2022.  They are Remote Connectivity; Supply Chain; Incident Response: Stability Studies; Inverter-Based Resources; Facility Ratings; and Cold Weather Response.

The 2023 CMEP Implementation Plan has fully transitioned to deal with emerging threats like cyber/physical security, surging renewable penetration rates, and extreme weather resiliency.  This may change if a legacy reliability issue drifts out of the control zone.
