Today’s LiveWire Spotlight examines the controversy sparked by a complaint to FERC by Californians for Green Nuclear Power looking to prevent the planned shutdown of the Diablo Canyon nuclear plant.  The group alleges that NERC’s and WECC’s tacit approval to removal of 2.2 GW of reliable baseload power – even as growing overreliance on renewables has led to brownouts – is a violation of the reliability standards.

FERC is currently reviewing the complaint submitted by the Californians for Green Nuclear Power for its legal and technical accuracy.  They will come back with a ruling after also considering the extensive feedback sent in from other interested parties.
