Today’s LiveWire Spotlight examines the first draft of the Canadian Variance to TPL-007-2 – which amends key elements of the Geomagnetic Disturbance (GMD) Mitigation standard that will be applicable only to Canadian entities. The drafting team has added “Attachment 1–CAN” which gives Canadian grid planners the option to assess GMD susceptibility using the NERC’s GMD benchmark/supplemental events or to derive their own.
The initial draft of the Canadian Variance to TPL-007-2 and it supporting materials have been posted on the NERC website for a 30-day review period. Comments must be returned to the project team by September 6, 2018.
