Today’s LiveWire Spotlight looks at the second draft Standards Authorization Request (SAR) addressing the findings from the January 2018 extreme weather event in the south-central U.S.  The new version incorporates stakeholder feedback to recognize the limitations in the ability of GO/GOPs to guarantee generator availability based on capability curves over a range of ambient temperatures.  A unit’s “historical demonstrated performance and operating limitations during ambient cold weather” will be used instead.

The Draft 2 Cold Weather Standards Authorization Request and it supporting materials have been posted on the NERC website for a 30-day review period.  Comments must be returned to the SAR drafting team by March 19, 2020.
