Today’s LiveWire Spotlight examines a newly issued NERC Reliability Guideline addressing FERC’s concerns regarding regional variances in the formulation of Interconnection Reliability Operation Limits (IROLs). The guideline focuses on the identification of system instabilities, cascading and uncontrolled separation that would drive the creation of an IROL through the assessment of BES impact and simulation methods.
The NERC Reliability Guideline on Methods for Establishing IROLs is the technical companion document for FAC-001-4 R6 – presently under development. The standard’s performance criteria will prevail wherever there are differences with the Guideline.
