Today’s LiveWire Spotlight evaluates NERC’s petition requesting approval of TPL-007-4 – the latest version of the geomagnetic disturbance (GMD) planning standard. The document addresses two directives issued by the Commission in Order 851 related to the handling of Corrective Action Plans that may result from GMD “hot spot” studies.
FERC should quickly approve TPL-007-4 given the minimal differences between their directives and the responses. The Commission may call for NERC to capture the new CAP extension approval process in their Rules, but that will not impact the standard’s effective date.
