Today’s LiveWire Spotlight looks at a NERC Disturbance Report presenting the findings from two 2018 events in Southern California where 500 kV transmission line faults rendered solar photovoltaic (PV) resources unavailable, while their fossil-fueled counterparts were mostly unaffected. The report lists seven findings with associated recommendations for Generator Owners to analyze and correct PV inverter issues that may drive adverse responses during disturbances.

FERC may intervene if progress is not made to resolve solar PV susceptibilities to Faults. Already a project has been launched to update PRC-024-2 to account for the voltage and frequency ride-through issues and other mandatory initiatives are being considered.
