Today’s LiveWire Spotlight assesses the latest annual analysis conducted by the ERO Enterprise on the use of Technical Feasibility Exceptions (TFEs) and their effect on BES reliability.  The number of entities with TFEs increased slightly during the previous year – ending a sharp two-year decline primarily attributed to the CIP v5 transition, which allows fewer TFEs than Version 3 did.

The ERO Enterprise believes the value gained by exception processing and mitigation has diminished significantly as older non-compliant equipment is retired.  They are developing proposals to eliminate the administrative burden for FERC’s consideration.
