Today’s LiveWire Spotlight examines NERC’s 2019 Summer Assessment, which forecasts the industry’s ability to support North America’s electric system reliability and adequacy thru the hottest months of the year. The study confirms that the Anticipated Reserve Margin for all 21 assessment areas – excluding ERCOT – will be sufficient during the summer.

Policy makers expect BES summer performance to remain at high levels despite emerging threats from large population inflows, declines in baseline capacity, and losses in rotating inertia. ERCOT and WECC are most at risk, so NERC is monitoring those regions closely.
