Today’s LiveWire Spotlight examines NERC’s 2019-2020 Winter Reliability Assessment which consolidates forecast and resource capacity data across North America to determine if the BPS will perform reliably and adequately over the next three months. The report finds that every assessment area has sufficient resources to deliver this winter’s forecasted energy usage based on normal demand and average weather conditions. However, it also signals a change in emphasis to address risks posed by extreme weather events which continue to plague the industry
The extreme weather issues identified in this Winter Reliability Assessment have been assigned to a Standards Development Team for further action. Four deliverables affecting the emergency operations planning and coordination standards have been identified.
