Today’s LiveWire Spotlight looks at the updates to two NERC standards which become mandatory and effective in the U.S. next month. CIP-003-7 will strengthen the cyber protections required of Low-Impact BES Cyber Systems by adding controls for transient electronic devices and portable media. IRO-002-6 adds a WECC Regional Variance that requires Reliability Coordinators in the West to develop and implement a common methodology for Interconnection modeling and monitoring.
CIP-003-7 and IRO-002-6 will take effect in the U.S. on January 1. At that time, the applicable owners, operators, and planners must have evidence that they are fully adhering to these standards.
