Today’s LiveWire Spotlight examines the initial draft of a NERC Reliability Guideline aimed at Planners looking to simulate the rapidly growing impact of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) on electric system frequency stability.  The document focuses on improving underfrequency load shedding (UFLS) planning models to account for roof-top solar panel aggregations, stand-alone solar/wind farms, and energy storage resources.

Draft 1 of NERC’s Reliability Guideline on the Recommended Approaches for UFLS Program Design with Increasing DER Penetration has been posted for a 45-day stakeholder review.  Comments must be returned to reliabilityguidelinecomments@nerc.net by August 26, 2021.
