Today’s LiveWire Spotlight looks at FERC Docket RD23-1-000, which directs the approval of EOP-011-3 and EOP-012-1. These standards look to prevent a repeat of the 2021 extreme cold weather storm (Uri) in Texas – codifying four of the 28 recommendations issued afterwards by an investigative team. However, the Commission also found that the EOP-012-1 includes “includes undefined terms, broad limitations, exceptions and exemptions, and prolonged compliance periods” that must be tightened in an expedited fashion.
EOP-012-1 will take effect in the U.S. on October 1, 2024. By that date, Clients must have updated their cold weather plans and Operator training – and to be prepared to take corrective actions should they experience a Generator Cold Weather Reliability Event.
