Today’s LiveWire Spotlight looks at FERC’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NOPR) to approve CIP-012-1, the NERC reliability standard addressing the confidentiality and integrity of BES data exchanged between Control Centers. The standard calls for Responsible Entities to implement plans to prevent the unauthorized modification or disclosure of exchanged data, including the identification of security protections used to mitigate the risks, where the security protections are applied, and the security responsibilities of each entity when the Control Centers are owned or operated by different organizations.

FERC’s proposal to approve CIP-012-1 has been posted for a 60-day public review. Clients have until June 24, 2019 to submit comments regarding the additional requirements that the Commission may call for if their concerns are not addressed.
