Today’s LiveWire Spotlight evaluates FERC’s Notice of Inquiry (NOI) seeking comments on the potential benefits and risks associated with the use of virtualization and cloud computing services in BES operations. In it, the Commission requests feedback to questions addressing four topical areas – hoping to allow Registered Entities some ability to deploy virtual technology innovations that move access controls closer to the software performing reliability tasks.
FERC’s Notice of Inquiry regarding virtualization and cloud computing services have been posted for a 60-day public review. Clients have until April 27, 2020 to submit responses to the Commission – reply comments are due 30 days after that.
