Today’s LiveWire Spotlight examines two Notices of Proposed Rulemaking (NOPRs) recently issued by FERC acting on the impact of climate change on electric system reliability. RM22-10-000 proposes changes to TPL-001-5.1 that will require long-term planners to develop benchmark extreme weather planning cases and to implement Corrective Action Plans to mitigate any instances where actual performance does not conform. RM22-16-000 will give BPS planners 90 days to provide one-time informational reports that describe how they perform extreme weather vulnerability studies to help FERC with its decision making process.
FERC’s NOPRs to codify extreme weather planning in the NERC standards and require a one-time report from transmission providers on the topic have been posted for a 60-day review. Clients have until late August to submit comments regarding the two dockets.
