Today’s LiveWire Spotlight examines FERC’s approval of PRC-024-3, which modifies NERC’s generator frequency and voltage ride through trip setting criteria.  The standard acts on the findings from the Los Angeles Blue Cut and Canyon 2 fires where solar resources were rendered unavailable, while fossil-fueled units were not.  However, the concepts are applied universally to all generator frequency, voltage, and volts/Hz relays and control system protective functions.

According to the implementation plan, PRC-024-3 will take effect in the U.S. on October 1, 2022.  By that time, Clients must verify that their frequency and voltage settings align with the requirements and the corresponding figures and tables in the attachments.
