Today’s LiveWire Spotlight is the second of two articles on FERC’s Technical Conference regarding the impact of climate change and extreme weather on electric system reliability – one for each four-hour session. Three panels were held on June 2: “Operating Practices for Addressing Climate Change and Extreme Weather”, “Recovery and Restoration” and “Coordination”. Panelists in this segment of the Conference consisted of a DOE Assistant Secretary, various ISOs, utility operations leads, academia, lab scientists, EPRI, and consultants.
After assessing the Technical Conference Day 2 Panel testimony, FERC is expected to revise their reliability strategy in the face of climate change. No doubt, it will include both market and regulatory measures that increase BPS performance without discouraging innovation.
