Today’s LiveWire Spotlight is the first of two articles on FERC’s Technical Conference regarding the impact of climate change and extreme weather on electric system reliability – one for each four-hour session. Two panels were conducted on June 1: “Planning for a Future that Diverges from Historical Trends” and “Best Practices for Long-Term Planning”. Panelists represented NERC, NOAA, various industry players, academia, state/local governments, and consulting firms.
FERC has posted the panel testimonies and the 2021 Technical Conference webcast for public review. They have not announced their next-steps, but are sure to signal their thinking when the industry-approved Cold Weather standards come up for review.
