Today’s LiveWire Spotlight examines FERC Order 842, which modifies the pro forma Large and Small Generator Interconnection Agreements to require all newly deployed generators to provide frequency response into the electric system. The Commission calls for immediate action to deal with the rapidly evolving resource mix, adding risk that frequency spikes cannot be arrested before load shedding relays trip.
The new requirements apply to new BES generators deployed in accordance with the execution or the unexecuted filing of an LGIA or SGIA as of May 15, 2018. Units undergoing a material modification requiring a new interconnection agreement are affected as well.
