Today’s LiveWire Spotlight gives an update to last May’s NERC Alert dealing with solar resources that enter into a “momentary cession” mode during voltage sags. The findings from the respondents indicate that fully 72% of all PV-based capacity (9,686 MW) is delivered by inverters that enter momentary cession mode when voltage drops – although 5,204 MW could be removed from consideration by a reconfiguration of their settings.

The NERC Alert directs the all Generator Owners with PV-based facilities to work with the inverter vendor to eliminate momentary cession to the greatest extent possible. Although, not subject to penalties, non-BES facility owners are encouraged to do the same.
