Today’s LiveWire Spotlight looks at a draft NERC Reliability Guideline advising resource owners and grid planners on how they should assure the accuracy of Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) models used to represent BES-connection inverter-based resources (IBRs) in system simulations. The guideline looks to correct NERC’s inability to reproduce BES impairments involving IBRs, even as penetration rates continue to surge.
The initial draft of NERC’s Reliability Guideline on EMT Modeling for BES Connected Inverter-Based Resources has been posted for a 45-day review. Comments must be returned to Aung.Thant@nerc.net by February 20, 2023.
