Today’s LiveWire Spotlight evaluates NERC’s 2017-2018 Winter Assessment – the latest seasonal study of the overall reliability and adequacy of the BPS.  It confirms that every geographical zone has the resources required to meet this winter’s projected demand, with enough reserves and transmission infrastructure to easily ride through the most severe single Contingency.

Although the voluntary preparedness activities have demonstrated results, NERC and FERC are still considering a mandatory approach to the vulnerability.  Their preference seems to be an expansion of PJM’s and ISO-NE’s financial incentive programs to all other ISOs.
