Today’s LiveWire Spotlight examines TPL-007-2 Draft 1, an extensive re-write of the Geomagnetic Disturbance (GMD) planning standard intended to correct four reliability gaps detected by FERC. One of the key changes is the introduction of a second “supplemental” GMD Vulnerability Assessment that predicts the electric system response to localized peak geoelectric fields.
The initial draft of TPL-007-2 and its supporting documentation have been posted on the NERC website for a 45-day review and concurrent ballot. Comments must be returned to the project team by August 11, 2017.
