Today’s LiveWire Spotlight evaluates NERC’s 2016-2017 Winter Assessment – the latest seasonal study of the overall reliability and adequacy of the BPS. The ERO sees an overall improvement in winter preparedness as Regions implement the lessons learned from extreme weather events and the polar vortex.
But, slower than anticipated demand growth and moderate conditions have not fully tested the adequacy of the new winter preparedness tools and procedures. Other steps may need to be taken if a major storm leads to widespread outages.
