Today’s LiveWire Spotlight examines FERC Order 832, which implements legislation signed by Barack Obama last June changing the rules for data sharing under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). It locks in the policy put in place by the U.S. President when he took office – disclosure is to take place unless it would harm a recognized protected interest.

Every U.S. Governmental Agency must comply with the FOIA Improvement Act by December 30, 2016. By that date, it is presumed that all information requests to FERC will be granted unless a compelling reason to keep them secret is given.
