Today’s LiveWire Spotlight looks at FERC Order 827, which eliminates the voltage and reactive support exemption in the Large and Small Generator Interconnection Agreements previously allowed for wind farms. In it, the Commission asserts that technological advances have reduced the costs of providing reactive power to the point that they do not affect the incentives to deploy future wind capacity.

Effective 9/21/16, Order 827 applies the new voltage and reactive requirements to wind and solar-powered generation. The pro forma Large and Small Generator Interconnection Agreements have been updated – affecting all new deployments.
