Today’s LiveWire Spotlight examines FERC Order 824 allowing the Commission’s access to three major NERC databases:
1. The Transmission Availability Data System (TADS) which captures the causes, durations, and frequencies of high-voltage circuit and transformer outages.
2.The Generating Availability Data System (GADS) collects similar performance data for every type of generation technology – ten in all.
3.The Protection System Misoperations database has archived thousands of relay failures since it became the catalog of record in 2011; 2,000 in 2014 alone.
FERC’s access to GADS, TADS, and the Misoperation database will be granted immediately. Section 39.11 of FERC’s regulations that governs the content, format, and frequency of reliability reports will be updated accordingly.
