Today’s LiveWire Spotlight examines FERC Docket RM15-14-000, which officially defers the date that all ten Version 5 Cyber Security (CIP) standards become mandatory and enforceable in the United States. In it, the Commission accepts the argument posed by industry stakeholders that two short-succession effective dates would lead to administrative overhead with little corresponding reliability benefit.

CIP-002-5.1 and every CIP Version 5/6 High-Impact and Medium-Impact requirement will now take effect on July 1. This Low-Impact requirements found in CIP-003-6 are not affected, and are still scheduled to take effect on 4/1/2017.
