Today’s LiveWire Spotlight examines the initial draft of FAC-003-4 – which will increase every value in the Minimum Vegetation Clearance Distance (MVCD) table by 30% to reduce the probability of flashovers between transmission lines and trees. The standard enacts a directive in FERC Order 777 to validate the calculated atmospheric insulation at various voltages and altitudes and to correct the table if needed.
The initial draft of FAC-003-4 and its supporting documents have been posted on the NERC website for a 45 day review and concurrent ballot. Clients must return comments to the project team and vote on the standard by December 16, 2015.
