Today’s LiveWire Spotlight reviews the third draft of TPL-007-1, the NERC standard governing the simulation of geomagnetically induced currents (GIC) that may threaten the integrity of the Bulk Electric System. Primarily, the drafting team has adjusted the implementation timeline in response to feedback that 4 years is not sufficient to develop an approach addressing a phenomena which is presently poorly understood
TPL-007-1 Draft 3 and its supporting documentation have been posted on the NERC web site for a 45 day review and concurrent ballot. Clients have until October 10, 2014 to return comments to the project team and vote on the standard.
