Today’s LiveWire Spotlight looks at FERC Docket IN14-7-000, which publicly announces the results of FERC’s settlement with the Imperial Irrigation District (IID) for an outage affecting south Arizona, California, and Baja Mexico in September of 2011. IID was levied a $3,000,000 fine for their failure to properly plan for a single contingency event – enabling a wide-area cascade affecting 2.7 million customers for 12+ hours.

The settlement with the Imperial Irrigation District was finalized with the release of FERC Docket IN14-7-000. The three million dollar fine is due immediately and will be split evenly between NERC and the U.S. Treasury.
