Today’s LiveWire Spotlight examines NERC’s 2014 Reliability Report – the latest evaluation of the performance of North America’s Bulk Power System. If finds that 2013 was “approximately as good” as the best year on record (2008) based upon the absence of high-stress days and 16 other availability measures.

Although the results are encouraging, NERC expects that regulatory focus will shift to the mitigation of low-frequency events (e.g.; physical attack). These are far more difficult to control, and will require much more analysis to reach the expected goals.
