Today’s LiveWire Spotlight examines FERC Docket RM13-5-000 approving the ten Version 5 CIP standards, which will govern all aspects of Bulk Electric System cyber security once they take effect. Among other important actions, the order directs further requirements governing “Low-Impact” BES Cyber Assets, flash drives, laptops. and communication within one year.
FERC will support a transition directly from the Version 3 CIP standards to Version 5. This corresponds to an effective date of 1/1/16 for High and Medium-Impact BES Cyber Systems – 1/1/17 for those considered to be Low-Impact.
