Today’s LiveWire Spotlight looks at a policy approved in March by the Board of Trustees to establish a communications firewall between NERC’s Electricity Sector Information and Analysis Center (ES-ISAC) and the collective ERO/Regional Compliance organizations. In it, NERC seeks to eliminate any reticence by Responsible Entities to report actual or suspected cyber intrusions to ES-ISAC – fearing a CIP violation will result.

Although no date is given, both the NERC policy statement and the DOE approval notice imply that the ES-ISAC firewall takes effect immediately. Up to this point, FERC has not issued a response that would reverse this action.
