The topic of today’s LiveWire Spotlight is NERC’s proposed Standards Authorization Request provided to FERC concerning BES equipment winterization. It addresses the findings of the joint NERC/FERC Task Force investigating the loss of electrical and natural gas service across multiple U.S. states during the 2011 Midwest ice storm. The ERO expects EOP-001-0b, TOP-002-3 and MOD-025-2 to be modified to ensure that operations planners are aware of weather-related generator constraints.
The proposed Standards Authorization Request has been submitted to NERC’s Standards Committee for consideration and prioritization. Afterwards, a project team will be assembled to lead the transmission winterization initiative.
