Today’s LiveWire Spotlight is on the findings of the joint NERC/FERC task force investigating the loss of electrical service in Connecticut and Massachusetts during last October’s winter storm. Over 3.2 million consumers and businesses lost power – some for up to eleven days – when trees weighted down by wet snow toppled by the thousands onto transmission lines.

In their press release on May 31, 2012, NERC and FERC did not announce next steps addressing the Task Force findings. However, there are related projects in progress which are likely candidates for implementing the recommendations.
