Today’s LiveWire Spotlight is on NERC’s updated version of the Section 1600 data request responding to FERC Order 754 – requiring that BES planners further analyze Protection System single point of failures. The exercise is intended to address the Commission’s concern that a gap exists in Category B planning scenarios, which assume that all elements are removed by a relay action – not accounting for circumstances where a non-redundant relay may fail or Misoperate.
The proposed data request, reporting template, and support documents have been posted on the NERC website for industry stakeholder review. Clients have until June 25, 2012 to return comments to NERC.
