Today’s LiveWire Spotlight is on the findings of the joint NERC/FERC task force investigating the 12+ hour loss of electrical service across south Arizona, California, and Baja Mexico last September. The incident began in Arizona, where a technician became distracted and missed a step in the process of isolating a capacitor bank – and spread from there.
NERC and FERC have stated their expectation that industry begin to incorporate lessons from the WECC outage. No status was provided on the compliance investigation, although it appears that some Standards were violated.
