Today’s LiveWire Spotlight concerns the interpretation returned in response to a request from Constellation to clarify the point in time at which Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVRs) must be engaged and controlling voltage during generator start-up and shutdown. In this case, the drafting team has modified VAR-002 R1 using a “rapid revision” approach in lieu of an interpretation – a method allowed by the NERC Standards Committee and approved by the requestor.
The initial draft of VAR-002-2b has been posted on the project web site for industry stakeholder review and a concurrent ballot. Clients have until March 23, 2012 to provide feedback to the project team and vote on the changes to R1.
