Today’s LiveWire Spotlight article assesses FERC’s latest rulings concerning the five categories of elements which are considered to be part of a Bulk Electric System Protection System. The first is Docket RD11-13-000, where the Commission has approved the modified definition of a Protection System developed under NERC Project 2007-17. The second is Docket RM10-5-000, which allows Project 2009-10’s related interpretation jointly crafted by the ERO and industry to take effect.
Project 2009-10’s interpretation of the extent of a Protection System will take effect on March. Industry stakeholders will have until February 3, 2013 to accommodate the new definition of “Protection System”.
