Today’s LiveWire Spotlight is on the latest distribution of NERC’s Lessons Learned concerning Sub-Synchronous Interaction. This is one of several analyses of Bulk Electric System incidents issued in late July intended to forewarn industry participants of issues that may also pose risk to their facilities. This one addresses transmission topologies which are predisposed to amplify harmful voltage and current oscillations at a frequency less than 60 Hz.

NERC’s Transmission Issues Subcommittee is developing a white paper concerning sub-synchronous control instability and resonance. Industry input, including the analysis of actual occurrences, can be sent directly to them.
